In this post, I’m sharing my Home Office Makeover Part 1, showcasing my new backdrop. Moreover, I want to share my experience here and whether I would recommend this wallpaper or no.

Affordable Home Office Makeover

If you have been following me on Instagram for some time, then you have seen a lot of my office/studio space makeovers throughout the years.

Since it’s a priority to me, I’ve managed to find a space to make a studio in every single house we’ve lived in wether its a closet or the basement. But, I think it is fair to say that this one is my all-time favorite office space.

The room used to be our “pretty” living room, the only area in which the kids were not allowed to play. As a result, everything in it remained clean and stains free. However, after living in the house for three years, it proved to be a useless space. So, I decided to move my studio out of the basement and claim the “pretty” room for my office space.

My office now has plenty of room to record my tutorials, gets natural light (unlike all my past offices), and I can work on the computer while still keeping an eye on the kids.

That said, the room still felt a bit boring and needed a pop! I wanted to give the room a mood, a Steffany’s Choice mood. Therefore, I have been slowly making improvements to it, and today I want to share the most recent one, wallpaper.

My Home Office Makeover Part 1

If there is one fact that you should know about me, is that I overthink every little detail, especially when it comes to my house decor. And this is only a critical fact now because I want you to know that it took me .5 seconds to decide that I would be putting this wallpaper on my wall.

That’s how much I gravitated towards this big floral assortment situation I now have for a backdrop. The blues flow perfectly with the wall color of the room; Sea Salt by Sherwin William. And the bright colors of pinks, blues, greens pop meanwhile, the yellow/gold cactus ties in with the gold accents I already have all over my office.

Another feature I liked about the wallpaper is that its a peel and stick, which should lend for a more straightforward application and removal when needed. To me, this is important since I would be DIY’ing the project by myself.

What You’ll Need

  1. Wallpaper of your choice. My choice: HERE and love the blue version HERE.
  2. A wallpaper tool kit
  3. Scizzors
  4. Microfiber washcloths or mop to clean walls
  5. Sanding blocks for prepping walls

How to Prep Walls For Wallpaper

Ok, so the rolls arrived, and I immediately got to work. Firstly, I removed the outlet covers and thermostat. Secondly, because the background is white, I knew it would reveal the texture of the wall more. Therefore, I used a sanding block to buff away any lifted groves.

Secondly, I cleaned my wall. This step is very important especially if you sanded the walls because there will be small dust particles you dont want to put your wallpaper on top of. I sprayed the walls with a good amount of wall wash, then using a microfiber pad I wiped it a few times to make sure I didn’t miss a spot.

The Process

Since I read so many reviews before starting my project, I knew I would be running to some challenges along the way. The main one being that the design was tough to line up. This was the case for me, too; my tip would be to make sure to order enough rolls, more then you think you need.

Another mistake I made was to line up some of the designs in the middle of the walls. Whenever I do wallpaper again, I would stick to always staring at the top.

Apart from that, the process was relatively easy and the paper attached to the walls with ease. Wherever I had air bubbles, I would poke it with the tip of my blade and flatten it with the squeegee tool.

Overall, I would recommend the wallpaper I used to anyone looking for an affordable yet attractive wallpaper.
