In this post, I will be sharing my DIY Walk-In Closet Makeover On A Budget.

Casa Colleran 2020 Revamp

Attic Closet Makeover On A Budget

One, if not the biggest projects in Casa Colleran was turning our unfinished attic into a master suite. We had many builders come and look at the space because like always, I had big ambitions.

Side Note: Finished attics make for some of the most beautiful and strikingly unique master rooms, in my opinion. I love exposing collar ties, adding skylights, even the slanted walls make for a design choice. That said, the slanted walls also pose the biggest challenge since it causes problems with storage and furniture.

Before

Our original plan was to build dormers, but after being told I had to wait months. My seven month pregnant self did not want to hear it! Plus, we had plenty of space within the current floor plan to add a spacious master suite and a decent size walk-in closet for myself.

But, after living in the space for a few years now, I often found myself unmotivated. Moreover, forgetting about the clothes I have because everything was so cramped up in there.

So, I decided to give it a makeover and turn it into a chic boutique style closet.

My closet revamping goal was to maximize the space while also turning it into a boutique-style closet. I wanted everything to have its place so that I can get ready without turning my whole closet upside down.

The first thing I did was clear the room of everything but my Pax wardrobe, applying the KonMari method. I separated my clothes by season and donated the ones I no longer liked or fit.

Side note: The attic crawl space, makes for the best storage area in finished attics.

Apart from how lighter my pile instantly looked, the feeling of purging is amazing to me. Even more rewarding, are the many outfits assembled and ready to be worn I have. #ootdfordaysssss

If there is one thing I recommend to anyone that’s looking to renew their space on a budget, is to declutter. That part alone made such an instant improvement, the second would be painting.

Wallpaper & Paint

As soon as the room was empty I knew exactly the wallpaper I wanted.

A black and white Herringbone wallpaper, I was originally going to use for my office makeover. I ordered five rolls of HaokHome Herringbone Black White Vinyl Self Adhesive Decorative Roll.

My original plan was to wallpaper the slanted wall. However, after wasting almost a full roll trying to wallpaper in this angle, I decided to go with the tall walls.

From beginning to end, it only took me 2.5 hours. it would have been less if I wasn’t binge-watching Ratchet the whole time too. I LOVE how the wallpapered walls came out but this made me want to paint the slanted wall too.

After sharing my progress on my Instagram stories with you, I received so much great feedback and color suggestions. I knew I wanted a charcoal black. My friend suggested Black Beauty by Benjamin Moore and after seeing the swatch I knew it was the winner.

Side Note: Contrary to what you may think, painting a room with dark color can make it appear larger, not smaller because dark colors recede.

I chose a Matte finish and applied two coats to make sure I achieved full coverage. Dark paint is slightly less forgiving and typically need a minimum of two coats to ensure complete coverage.

“Built-In” Makeup Vanity

I wish I had thought of this sooner, because by tucking my makeup vanity into this space. The room instantly looked less crowded.

Now, keeping my getting ready table looking tidy will be effortless, plus I have plenty of space to record my tutorials! talk about a win-win!

Industrial Pipes, Hooks & Tall Mirrors

Closet Makeover On A Budget

Two things that characterize a boutique is beautiful clothes/accessories on display and big mirrors. Plus, I wanted to have the option to set clothes out for the days ahead or simply display an item I hardly ever get to wear.

After looking at different options, I decided on something a little outside of my typical style choices; industrial pipes.

To hang my hats, I found these adhesive hooks, and I’m so in love with how it turned out.

Tall mirrors not only help you coordinate an outfit but also reflecting light to make space seem larger. Prior to this, I had to go to my bedroom to check out my outfit.
