I always knew the day would come when I would get my brows microbladed. I was just afraid to do it.

For as long as I can remember, I have hated my brows; the shape has always been so awkward and so uncomplimentary, it also took up 40% of my makeup routines allotted time.

I have spent more time trying to get my brows in shape than anything else in my life, trying out products, serums and even paying a “brow guru” $200 to shape my eyebrows.

So why the hesitation to microblading them? Everything mentioned above is reversible, a brow pencil is too dark? Wipe it off and try another. Is the shape too thin? Sacrifice a few weeks of looking like a savage to grow them out.

However, microblading is permanent at least for up to three years, and I had seen too many microblading gone wrong situations to trust my brows to just anyone.

Before I jump into my personal experience, let’s get a little more familiar with the process.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a tattooing technique in which a small handheld tool made up of several tiny needles is used to add permanent pigment to the skin.

It is used on eyebrows to attempt to either create, enhance or reshape the appearance of the eyebrows. Microblading deposits pigment into the upper region of the dermis, so it fades more rapidly than traditional tattooing techniques, which deposit pigment more rooted into the dermis.

Microblading differs from standard eyebrow tattooing because each hairstroke is a thin, natural looking line that blends in with existing eyebrow hair, whereas, with eyebrow tattoos, it is often producing thicker, less natural lines that tend to expand over time.

Even though it’s not as deep as a regular tattoo, it’s still a tattoo because the pigment is implanted under the skin.

Who is Microblading For?

When you’ve tried every pencil, powder, pigment, gel, and stencil at the makeup counter and your brows are still sparse, there’s microblading, a more permanent fix for thin eyebrows that promises to change your brow life.

Microblading is an investment

Depending on where you live or end up going, the first treatment can cost up to $900.

While lower-priced services are available, be cautions against visiting inexperienced technicians. Remember, microblading is a form of tattooing.

But note that microblading artists are not necessarily tattoo artists, and vice versa because the techniques require different training.

Basically, please don’t base where you go get your brows done on the price but instead on the expertise and reviews of the artist.

If its an option try one of their less invasive brow services to gage an idea of this person’s work like mentioned above my brow tech shaped and tinted my brows for five months before I felt comfortable enough to get them microbladed.

Ask questions about the quality of the pigments they use, research the web to make sure there are no negative reviews you should be aware of.

Finally, make sure this person has been trained and is licensed to do this service and has had enough practice.

Different Strokes For Different Folks

Brow, ombre, brows review

This popular beauty service has evolved, with new techniques and styles to choose from. When it all comes down to it though, your choice of brows will likely be based on two factors; the type of skin you have and the look you’re after.

Microblading

Microblading will make brows appear thicker and more filled in, but the skin will still be visible throughout the brow, creating a more natural appearance.

Ombre Brow

Ombre mimics the look of brow makeup with a more filled-in look instead of hair-like strokes, and this style is ideal for those who usually wear makeup.

Blade & Shade

Blade and shade are created with hair strokes, usually around the edges where they’re most visible, then add shading only to the body of the brow.

Combination

This style combines all three techniques and is the one I chose to get done.

My First Visit To D&A Medical Spa

Choosing Where To Get My Brows Done

This was the most important and time-consuming step for me, I did so much research and read reviews of brow artists. I was not just doing my research locally but also all over the world.

D&A Esthetics Med Spa reached out to me one day via Instagram letting me know of their new business and inviting me to come in and try out one of their services.

After checking it out and seeing some of the before and after I decided to give them a try by shaping and tinting my brows.

I was so in love with the shape that Daybelis, the brow artist, gave me its as if she knew exactly what I’ve always wanted my brows to look like.

Since my first visit, I continued going for five months to get them shaped and tinted until finally booking my microblading appointment.

At this point, I was so comfortable, and I trusted that my brows would look amazing.

Microblading Brows Review

My Brows after shape and tint

The Weeks Before My Brow Transformation

A month before my eyebrow microblading appointment I stopped doing my brows shaped, I wanted to have as much hair possible so that we can have an idea of my best shape.

There are also some things you need to avoid before getting microbladed, namely, anything that will thin out your blood. If you drink a lot, take aspirin, or use retinol, stop one week before your treatment. Bleeding pushes out pigment so that it doesn’t stick as well.

Retinol makes your skin thin which will make you bleed a little more so stop using it as well as any other exfoliation skincare.

It is also important to avoid blood thinners, aspirin, and alcohol during the healing process as well

The Big DayEyebrow Microblading

As soon as I signed the consent forms, Daybelis, my brow artist proceeded to apply a topical numbing cream on my brows. If you have a low pain tolerance, she says it’s best if you use numbing cream for up to an hour beforehand.

The whole process took about 2 hours, for the most part, its painless except for when she was doing the shading technique which was a pain level of 5.

The most critical step that my brow artist takes is that she measures, and remeasures over and over again. She does not leave anything to the blank eye, instead focuses on symmetry while also maintaining your natural look.

When I first looked in the mirror; My brows look insanely dark and slightly red and mildly swollen which is normal.

Aftercare is everything

Aftercare means protecting freshly bladed brows from all moisture–no sweaty workouts, swimming, or washing your face with water for three days.

It is essential to follow these steps since getting them wet will make the scab comes off too early, and you’ll lose the pigment.

I experienced itching and redness during the first week, which A + D can alleviate.

Brows will look slightly darker at first, but the color will fade 30 to 40 percent. Aftercare ointment is provided during your first appointment. Overall the shape looks great right away just very dark.

You will also have to avoid using any makeup and other products on the brows while they heal. Treat it like an open wound.

My brows went thru a lot of changes in the first-week post microblading/ombre process.

The first three days they were just really dark but no other symptom, the swelling went down after the first day.

Correctly as my brow tech had warned me, when they start to peel on day four and five, it looks as if you lost all the pigment. My brows looked patchy and light.

Then on day six and seven, they looked almost perfect, with a little more peeling in some areas, but I started to gage the overall outcome of my brows.

How Long Will Your Perfect Brows Last

It should last up to three years, with recommended touch up every 12-18 months.

Depending on the skin and lifestyle, if you have oily skin or your body might metabolize pigment faster you might need touch-ups once every six months.

It is essential to have realistic expectations and understand the brows will naturally fade with time.

Two Weeks Post Microblading/Ombre Brow

It’s been two weeks since I got my brows done and I could not be happier you guys!

They look amazing, and I have no regrets, well maybe one; I wish I had done them sooner.

I’m in love them and would recommend anyone that struggles with their brows to look into this option; if your eyebrows take over three minutes to fill them, and you do your makeup at least five days a week, you would benefit from this service.

Now I can do a five-minute full face makeup routine and look like it took me half an hour, guys, this to me is priceless.

If you are in Boston I  recommend D&A Esthetics Med Spa, take a look at their before & after and you will see that I am just one of their many happy clients.
