In this post, I will be sharing my tips on How to Reduce The Appearance of Cellulite From Home.
I can’t even begin to number the times I have fallen for a “magical cellulite removal” treatment, creams, wraps, oils, etc. Unfortunately, none of them worked! Sorry, I wish I had better news ladies, but having cellulite is entirely normal, and according to research, 80 to 90 percent of women have them.
I also want to emphasize that the title reads: Reduce the appearance and not “get rid” because I will never be one to sell you on false promises.
This is why, if you’d like to try the tips, tools, and products I use to reduce the appearance of my cellulite, you first must understand its limitations. So first, let’s get the logistics out of the way.
What is Cellulite?
Cellulite is a term used to describe an area of the body where the skin has a dimpled appearance. Most commonly seen on the hips, buttocks, and thighs. However, it can also occur on the lower belly and upper arms.
Causes of Cellulite
Cellulite forms when fat cells underneath your skin push up against your connective tissue. This creates the uneven, bumpy texture that gives cellulite its cottage cheese-like appearance.
Regardless of your weight, everyone has fat cells. But, some people are more prone to cellulite than others. Below are other factors that increase a person’s probability for cellulite:
- Hormones. Hormones play a role in the formation of fat cells and cellulite. This may help explain why cellulite sometimes worsens after puberty or during pregnancy.
- Age. As we age, skin becomes less elastic, and connective tissue bands naturally weaken.
- Genetics. Genes can dictate the distribution of fat cells, skin elasticity, and other factors that influence cellulite.
- Lifestyle & Diet. Certain lifestyle choices, such as not working out, drinking too much alcohol, and eating foods high in salt, fats, and preservatives.
Can Cellulite Be Removed?
In short, no at least not from home. There are some medical procedures available that may reduce cellulite, though. However, to achieve the best results, search for a reputable provider. Moreover, be conscious that many of these procedures require multiple sessions.
The best non-surgical way to reduce the appearance of dimples is by adding strength training to your workouts routine. Strength training, especially when combined with diet and cardio can reduce body fat and sculpt muscles, helping erase some of those dimples. Muscle is lean and robust, making it harder to be dimpled.
Personally, the latter is how I have noticed the most improvements in the overall appearance of my legs. That said, I have a handful of tips and tricks that help reduce the appearance of cellulite from home. No workouts required!
How to Reduce The Appearance of Cellulite From Home
When it comes to reducing the appearance of cellulite, I love using products that offer results but are also great to use all over the body.
The steps and tools below can also improve the appearance of stretch marks, Keratosis Pilaris (strawberry skin), ingrown hairs, and acne. Moreover, it will also improve the overall tone of your body.
For the most benefits, you must stay consistent and optimistic. This is the same rule of thumb that applies to other scrubs, masks, and the like. Also, as with other skin treatments, any results will likely go away once you stop using them.
Tip 1: Exfoliate
My favorite step to healthier skin is exfoliation. Exfoliating speeds up your skin’s turnover process and helps it look younger. In the simplest terms, it removes dead and dulling skin cells.
What to expect: Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells and yield a smoother, more even look to the skin. While exfoliation itself can’t get rid of cellulite, such effects reduce its appearance.
Dry Brush
First, and before my AM shower, I dry-brush my skin 3-5 times a week. Dry brushing is an exfoliation technique in which you use a palm-size soft-bristle bush to effectively slough away dead skin and stimulate lymphatic circulation. The results are smoother and toned healthy skin.
Most noteworthy, I would recommend dry-brushing as a great ritual to implement to your #selfcare routines. I love to take this opportunity to set my intentions for the day, to be grateful, but most importantly, to be present.
How To:
In long rotational motion, brush over the skin 1-3 times, starting at the feet, working your way upwards towards the heart. At your abdomen, brush on a clockwise motion. Shower.
Coffee Scrub
Every other day, I like to up the exfoliation and use a coffee-based scrub. I choose coffee scrubs for the skin tightening benefits, as it is thought that the caffeine dilates blood vessels, and this stimulation help improve blood flow, reduces cellulite and excess water.
Another benefit of a coffee scrub is that it can be applied as-is since the coffee grounds themselves have a natural exfoliation effect. However, I do recommend you add other skin-improving ingredients like the ones I shared on this DIY scrub here. Coffee is also rich in antioxidants, which help promote overall healthier skin tone. Talk about a win-win.
How To:
Ideally, start by showering using warm water to help soften the skin. Then using your hands, scoop out enough scrub to cover the areas you are working on, and using circular motion massage it into your skin. After a few minutes, rinse clean.
What I love about scrubs, in general, is that the massaging action also helps assist lymphatic drainage and stretch skin tissue to improve the appearance of stretch marks and cellulite.
Scrubbing Sponge
Whenever I’m running short on time but need a quick but effective exfoliation, I use a Spongeables anti-cellulite body wash in a sponge.
I enjoy using this sponge so much because it leaves the skin looking and feeling more toned. Moreover, it can be conveniently used every day.
How to Use:
Thoroughly wet sponge and squeeze to form a creamy lather. Exfoliate and massage all over body. After use, squeeze out excess water and store in a dry area.

Tip 2: Massage
The following tips is all about the massages tools, creams and oils that I use to improve the appearance of cellulite.
What to expect: Consistent massages accompanied by skin tightening creams/oils help reduce cellulite by activating lymphatic drainage. This can also help stretch your skin tissue; therefore, cellulite dimples too.
Wood Therapy
Wood therapy is a vigorous massage technique that utilizes wooden, handheld tools to breakdown fat.
I got introduced to wood therapy (maderoterapia) while in Colombia three years ago. However, I was still skeptical about DIY’ing the treatment at home, and only a few months ago added it as part of my body care routine.
This technique has a firming effect on the skin, as it activates the production of elastin/collagen and improving blood circulation. After a few treatments, you should notice a reduction in the accumulation of stored fat volume, cellulite reduction, a more contoured waist, and lift the buttocks.
I am happy to report that I have noticed a considerable improvement in my arms, butt, and legs. That said, it can leave the skin with bruises, which is why I’m pausing my treatments during the summer.
How To:
First and foremost, manually massage the area using an anti-cellulite cream. I love using Clarins ‘Body Fit’ and follow the exclusive Self-Massage Body Contouring Method they share on the product insert.
After that, I take the wood Fascia Blasting Muscle Roller and roll upwards firmly in the areas I’m targeting. To avoid bruising the skin, dont apply to much pressure. I work on each area for a few minutes before moving on to the next. Finally, I top my skin with an anti-cellulite oil.

Tip 3: Add Collagen to Your Diet
Collagen is a significant component of your skin and plays a role in strengthening and hydrating the skin.
As we age, our bodies produce less collagen, leading to dry skin, wrinkles, and cellulite. This is why adding Collagen rich foods and or supplements is vital to anyone wanting to age as gracefully as possible.
The wrinkle-reducing effects of collagen supplements are attributed to their ability to stimulate your body to produce collagen on its own.
Moreover, taking collagen supplements may promote the production of other proteins that help structure your skin, including elastin and fibrillin.
What to expect: Several studies have shown that collagen supplements work to strengthen the connective tissue of your skin. Additionally, it helps slow down the aging of your skin by reducing wrinkles and dryness.
How To:
Add one scoop of collagen to a dry glass and then add liquid on top of the powder to disperse and dissolve. Warm liquids will be easier to mix than cold. It is best taken with a source of vitamin C, as it will help to stimulate collagen production in the body.
