It seems like it was just yesterday, that my big girl was a baby yet here we are celebrating her 15th birthday.
It is a tradition in my country, the Dominican Republic, to celebrate this age in a big way.
Quinceañera is a celebration of a young girl coming of age and recognizes her journey from childhood to maturity.
However, my daughter wants to go the American route and celebrate her 16th birthday instead.
While still trying to stick to part of my traditions, I decided to teach her how to wear makeup.
What’s an Age-Appropriate Makeup Routine for Teens
The key when creating a makeup routine for a teen is to make it simple and age appropriate.
First of all, it’s essential to establish a healthy skincare routine.
Another rule is that they should still look like themselves.
I don’t know what makes me cringe more than an overly done tween/teen face.
A teens makeup routine should consist of about 5-7 products.
Example: Tinted moisturizer, concealer, setting powder, blush, highlighter, and mascara.
Very similar to this no foundation look HERE.
Above all my advice is to make it fun and take this opportunity to bond with your teen.
What’s Different Between Teen and Adult Makeup
The priorities of the two are usually different as well as the budget.
For example, I like to use makeup to look more youthful and fresh while a teen wants a matte shine-free finish.
Another is in the brands that appeal to teens in contrast to adults.
Probably the above is the main contrast between the two as well as the amount of makeup I use.
My Go-To Makeup Look In Contrast to My Daughters
I decided to record my go-to routine versus her current makeup routine to compare the two.
Because she is still new to applying makeup we have been practicing different techniques to see which one is her favorite.
