In this post, I will be sharing 11 black-owned beauty brands you will love to support.
As I watch in terror and disgust at everything that is happening in this world, all I can think of are ways that I can use my platform to make a difference. Or at least not be part of the problem. I know that if I want to be a true ally, I need to take action. And I was inspired by seeing so many using their platforms to highlight and introduce black-owned businesses, artists, and content creators.
In particular, the initiative that Sharon Chuter took and created Pull Up or Shut Up, where she gave beauty brands 72 hours to publicly release the number of black people they employ and a break down on how many of them have leadership roles. Some brands have been open and shared their numbers, which, in many cases, highlights the lack of black representation within the company.
But moreover, it’s an eye-opener for consumers that want to be woken and realize that some of the companies we support dont support us back. And while these brands are now “realizing” how un-diverse their company is and are promising change. We, as the consumer, hold power to make a decision and spend our coins wisely. And I don’t know about you, but I will be more conscious of the brands I support.
Below I’m sharing 11 Black-owned beauty brands you will love to support. This said, and even though right now Black Lives Matter is a trending topic, I want to make it very clear that every day is an opportunity to celebrate and uplift the Black culture.
